General Email Services: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I ensure email sent from my boss/colleagues/friends will not be
filtered as junk/spam mail?
First, please note that the Spam Auto-Filtering function does not have effect on
those email originated from the central email servers (i.e. staff, student and
alumni mail servers). Therefore, email sent from your boss, colleagues or
students via central email servers will not be filtered as junk/spam mail by the
spam auto-filtering no matter what header and content contained.
However, if their emails are sent from external mail servers such as from home computer via ISP broadband or dial-up services, they might be filtered by the spam auto-filtering if you have enabled it. In addition, your Blacklist filters, if any, will have effect on all incoming email no matter where the mail was sent from.
To ensure that email sent from your boss, colleagues or friends will not be filtered as junk/spam mail, you can set up appropriate whitelist filters. For example, you can set up a whilelist filter to accept any email with sender address (From, Return-path or Reply-to) containing your boss/colleague/friend’s email address. For the detailed operational procedure please refer to the User Guide on Set up Junk Mail Filters.
Please note that there is no need to set up any whilelist filter if you have not set up any Blacklist filter, and have not enabled the Spam Auto-filtering.
In addition, please play attention to the order of your filters in the filter list. Please refer to here.
