How to configure Outlook Express 6 to access my IMAP Mailbox?
If you have installed Outlook Express 6, you can configure the software to access your email by the following steps:
1. On Tools menu, click Accounts.
2. Select the Mail tab, click Add, and then click Mail.
4. In the E-mail address text box, type your email address
<electronic-id>@cityu.edu.hk
(e.g. cctom@.cityu.edu.hk),
and then click Next.
5. In the list of Internet mail server types, select
IMAP.
6. In the Incoming mail server text box, type the name of the IMAP server i.e.,
mail.cityu.edu.hk
7. In the Outgoing mail server text box, type the name of the SMTP server i.e.,
smtp.cityu.edu.hk.
8. Click Next.
9. In the Internet Mail Logon dialog box, enter
your-electronic-id
(e.g. cctom) as account name,
then click Next.
10. Click Finish at the end.
Besides, you should enable "secure connection" in Outlook Express
to access your IMAP mailbox.
11. From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.
12. To select your account then click Properties.
13. Click the Advanced tab,
14. Check the checkbox of This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
The Sever Port Numbers for Incoming mail (IMAP) will be automatically changed to
993.
15. Click OK.
Caution: In order to prevent your computer from getting infected by computer virus via email, you should tighten the security configuration in Outlook Express to prohibit scripts from running within email. Please refer here for the detailed procedure.
