Why can't I send email when I connect to the internet through other ISP?
For security reason, it is not allowed to send mail (relay) from our SMTP server (smtp.cityu.edu.hk for staff) / (stdsmtp.cityu.edu.hk for student) / (alsmpt.cityu.edu.hk for alumni) to any email address when you are connected to the internet through Internet service provider (ISP) and using email client (except WebMail) such as Outlook Express, Outlook. In such case, you must use the SMTP (outgoing) server which is provided by your ISP (e.g. Netvigator / i-Cable/ HKBN) when you are off campus. Otherwise, you will come across an error and your outgoing mail would not be sent.
